Six Tips To Ace Work From Home
The rising Coronavirus pandemic has enveloped the world, wreaking havoc on public health and inflicting economic crisis.
With the massive loss of lives, downfall of the economy, and this deadly virus perpetrating chaos, most parts of the world opted for WORK FROM HOME (WFH).
WFH is a safer option, obviously. Safe and practical.
The transition from working in an office to working from home has proved to be difficult for many people. People who previously aced every project while having a professional work environment are accounted to be lacking while working from home.
Taking this into consideration, I am going to discuss six incredible tips that are going to make WFH much more impactful, productive, and fruitful for you.
1.DRESS UP
Working in Pyjamas does seem appealing, doesn't it?
“ My favorite perk of WFH is working in my pajamas.” - Sehar Mahar, SQA Engineer, Atompoint.
Honestly speaking, this was my favorite perk of WFH as well.
Two days into this, I realized that I need to dress up to kick-start my efficiency.
It does not have to be a total GLAM-UP but wearing something other than your cozy night-suit will get you more stream-lined.
So, get out of that super-comfy night-dress and gear up with something casual.
Everything you ever wanted is just one step away from your comfort zone so learn to step out of that comfort and meet the best version of yourself.
2. WORKSPACE:
Treat yourself to a workspace in your house. It does not have to be an entire room, rather a quiet corner would suffice perfectly.
An investment in a comfortable office chair and a desk will not go wasted.
You can choose a space with some good natural light to make the best of it. Pop up some pens, notepads, laptop and you have a workspace, VIOLA!
You can even add some artificial miniature plants on your desk, a motivational quote, and some cute little coasters if you want to be a little EXTRA!
Working while snuggled up in the cosy covers with the laptop atop you may be a dream come true, and I truly hate to be the one to break it to you but: IT IS CUMBERSOME.
Force yourself to leave your snug bed and go to your designated workspace. This act will jumpstart your productivity tenfolds.
“ Sitting in my designated workspace at home gives me a much better focus than working flopped up on a couch” - Sumair Sayani, Account Officer Executive, Atompoint.
3. PREP UP:
Most people usually listen to music en route to work or hit the gym before starting their day. I would one hundred percent advise you to keep doing that.
“ A brisk walk or quick workout helps me power through the day” - Saqib Sarfaraz, Web Development Specialist, Atompoint.
Going to the gym may be unsafe, in that case, you can always work out at home with fast gym tracks motivating you. Plug-in your headphones and listen to music, spend time with your pet or loved one, or read a book so that you give your brain some usual time to prep up before hitting the THINK TANK.
Sitting in front of your laptop straight out of your bed, while you are yawning, stretching, and rubbing your eyes off their sockets is not going to help you be productive. Trust me on that!
4. BREAKFAST:
As trivial as it may seem, breakfast is the most important meal of your day, and eating it after you have started working is NOT the best idea.
Eating a buttery toast while trying to keep your hands off the keyboard and mouse is just going to make the process a whole lot frustrating.
“ Being a neat freak, just the idea of a buttery keyboard is making me gag.” - Shumaila Hareem, HR Executive, Atompoint.
So, have your healthy breakfast in peace, while enjoying the fresh, windy breeze. Hey, that rhymed!
Anyway, coming back to the point, when you finish your breakfast, you can focus your undivided concentration on your work which will ultimately help in producing effectual results.
5. SAY NO TO DISTRACTIONS:
If you are thinking that working while watching tv is not going to be a hindrance to your work, I would say: THINK AGAIN!
You are in control of your environment of the house and even though doing whatever you want may seem like a fun idea, it IS NOT a good one.
Calling up a fellow friend, watching the news, or distracting yourself with social media popped open all the time while working is bound to make your work lag.
“ Wanted to watch a quick episode of F.R.I.E.N.D.S between work, ended up watching 8 episodes and 0 work done. Certainly not one of my better judgments.” - Poonam Khatri, Project Management Intern, Atompoint.
Learn to keep yourself in strict check and balance to maintain a healthy work-life.
I cannot stress how important communication is, especially when you are working from home.
There are innumerable hurdles that everyone is going to face during this transition to WFH but communication is the key to overcome them.
“ Better ask questions than being Mr. Know-it-All, learned it the hard way!” - Raja Osama, PWA Developer, Atompoint.
Ask your questions, fill in the physical gap by keeping a constant stream of communication as required by your work.
Miscommunication is the root cause of most problems. Learn to eliminate these problems by keeping a strong stream of communication flowing.
Conclusion:
These are the six easy-to-do yet impactful tips that can make WFH more effective and significant. I hope they help you as much they helped me!
